Keeping Score: Matt Mackowiak’s Latest Misstep Gives Chet Edwards Lead Over Bill Flores 10–3

Remember the fib Matt Mackowiak told Bill Flores to say if he was ever asked who he voted for in the 2008 election?

Chet Edwards does and scores a field goal to increase his lead.

Edwards unleashed his first commercial today, sending an unlisted link to Congressional Quarterly for the video he has posted on his YouTube Channel. Congressional Quarterly posted the video and wrote up the story here.

Here’s the video:

Expect these to start airing this weekend.

How do we know?

Well, I was speaking with former candidate Rob Curnock yesterday and he and I were comparing Edwards’ typical campaign calendar – the one he follows every cycle which is why anyone from Texas 17 knows Chet would have his signs out at the beginning of August – and Curnock and I agreed that Edwards would start his negative campaigning by the end of this week – coming out with the ho-hum stiff first.

CQ posted their story at 1:06 AM today.

Matt was busy yesterday counting the cash from the weirdly promoted “moneybomb” and promoting on Twitter that release of Flores’ commercial about “Jobs” that came out Wednesday.

So, Matt has a commercial that talks about Washington and Jobs while Chet is hitting his client between the eyes and calling Bill Flores a liar.

Mat doesn’t even mention the voting record of Chet Edwards that has cost America jobs. He doesn’t even mention “my opponent” once.

So these commercials will play on the same stations and who looks bad?

Unfortunately, Bill does; because Matt told him to lie. And Chet is sharing that with everyone while Matt has Bill tell people about how bad Washington is.

So the voter watching will think “Hmmmm… Washington bad or Bill bad? Who do I want in Congress? Bill doesn’t say Chet is bad, and I can see on the video that Bill lied…so why change things for someone who will probably be worse?”

Hey, that’s what you and I know that the voter will think. Because we live here.

As much as we want Bill to get elected, or at least want Chet to lose…Mat’s doing everything he can to kill that dream.

So, why make the commercial?

Well, it’ll look good in Matt’s portfolio when he pitches the next election client after he loses this one for Bill Flores and Texas 17.

Thanks, Matt.

Field goal: Chet Edwards.

Bill: Fire this guy. Hire some people who are from here.

EDITOR”S NOTE: The below was submitted and held as pending, because the email address was suspect. We know @NotMackowiak is a legitimate person, and we’ve been able to narrow it down a bit to who it is by the process of elimination. Unfortunately, our email contacting this person was not returned, though it did not give us a bounce-back, either. We have chosen to publish this message because it adds to the interest in this campaign, and we think @NotMackowiak should be followed on Twitter for reasons you may be able to determine on your own. Unless we get a response from the email address submitted with this post, we will not be able to permit anymore comments from this person, because anyone could masquerade as this parody account and we want to make sure only the REAL @NotMackowiak is participating. Sorry…they are pretty funny!

Leave me ALONE or I’m gonna tell the NRCC!

You must have FAITH in my legit, veteran tactics. Don’t worry, GUYS–I’ll release another internal poll showing us up! People will BELIEVE that, yes?

PS: what’s the legit ANSWER to the Boehner question?

    • The legit answer is whatever Flores believes. Personally, I wouldn’t support Boehner…he’s part of the establishment problem. Flores could easily say he will make that decision when the election process takes its course, to see whom he thinks is the most qualified to lead the new Congress.

      How hard is that?

The Flores ad is designed to promote a positive spin on creation of jobs – something we need and what DC does not have a clue about. I’ll grant you a reference to Chet’s lack of action would not have hurt. Positive campaigning is not a bad thing -people want to hear what Bill can do and this ad draws on his experience..

Edwards is a political pimp who has nothing to run on but negative ads. He has been identified as the liberal lap dog that he is.

    • Thanks for chiming in Darren!

I’ve always appreciated your straight forward approach and enjoyed being on the campaign trail with you last fall.

I think Matt needs to have Bill hit much harder. Chet has NOTHING to lose by going negative all the time, and a little tweak, like you mentioned, would be great in Bill’s ads.

I’d like to see him run :60s instead of :30s, too.

There just seems to be a disconnect and one can only determine that it is there because outsiders are trying to run this thing from a National perspective. All politics continue to remain local…and with Texas at a relatively low jobless rate, that dog won’t hunt long.

      Thanks again, Darren!
