Quotes and Citations

American|Writes often includes quotes from individuals, particularly in the posts that cover politics. Quotes are only used when verifiable proof of those words being said exists. If there is a lengthy passage that is quoted, American|Writes has transcribed a recording or reproduced actual text from the person quoted. When paraphrasing, the writer will either note that device is being used, or will not actually quote the individual.

American|Writes utilizes audio and video technology to protect itself and those it quotes.

We do our best to provide citation for images and content we use that is not originally produced. It is our desire and intention and is The American Way to give credit where credit is due. If a reader notices something that is not properly cites, please take it upon yourself to let us know using any comment form or the contact page.

Comments

We can have a very lively and animated discussion if we all follow some simple rules. My rules simply follow those uttered by John Wayne in his final role, as The Shootist:

“I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do those things to other people and I require the same of them.”

Keep your language clean, and no ad hominem attacks or name calling. Attack the issue or the idea, not the person. The days of shooting the messenger are over, and I expect you’ll have a good time here with me, as I am sure I will with you.

To be sure we understand each other, here’s what comments will be deleted and/or reported to authorities, as warranted:

  • Comments that are off-topic to the post they are attached to.
  • Comments that are personal attacks on me or other people I care about, including other readers.
  • Comments that contain racial slurs, name-calling, hate language, or speculation on things such as sexual orientation.
  • Comments left anonymously or with fake name/email addresses. Determining the authenticity or existence of a commenter is at my discretion.
  • Comments that include a URL that appears to be included for marketing purposes.
  • Comments that are libelous
  • Comments that are obscene
  • Comments that provide private information that shouldn’t be public
  • Comments that contain plagiarized material

All comments are archived upon submission and, though they may be deleted for one or more of the above reasons, they will be saved electronically in perpetuity for any necessary use in the future.

Your first comment will be held for approval, and then after it is approved you will be able to comment without moderating. I will do my best to approve first-time comments as quickly as possible…watch your email, because I may contact you to see if you are for real! Occasionally commenters who stray over the line of this policy will once again be moderated before their comments are allowed for as long as I see fit.
